Dad's Birthday

Last week we hosted a very belated birthday party for my Dad.

It was extremely fun, and we were thrilled to have everyone here.

It's rare that we ever get the majority of my crew in any one location - and we almost did it! Sorry, Morgan, Austin, Nicole and John - we missed you. We ended up with 27 for lunch - and it was just wonderful. Everyone bought something for our meal, we enjoyed wonderul desserts and the weather was perfect. Some fished, others tubed, some watched football and others just chilled outside.

It was another one of those days that I realize how good God is to my family.

I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!

Deep Breath

Well, it's official.

Almost everyone close to me is consumed with making life better for children.

Yes, school has started. John is overseeing a school district that has grown beyond expectation. Both kids, sister, brother in law, nieces and nephews are all back in their respective districts.

Leading up to a school starting week is like Christmas. It's exciting, you know something wonderful is about to happen. Yet, you cannot anticipate every surprise.

I am so thankful God placed me in a family that loves all children.

There is no greater gift than a child God has loaned. It breaks my heart when I see or speak to a child that I feel is not being treated like the precious gift that was presented from heaven.

And, with each new school year, you once again see the faces of those that are loved immensely, and those that want to be loved immensely.

If you visit my blog one time, or a few (I know some of you do, because you've guilted me into writing again...), when you log off this time - please. Please, look at the children (of all ages) you will see over the weekend, when you go to church, when you go back to school, or you see in the grocery store...at the end of the day, please recall those faces as you kneel for prayer. Please let God know that you saw one of his special children today, thank him and ask for love and protection for each.

Then, will you please step up - become involved, make a commitment to serve those children in some way. Just pray about it, ask God to help you get out of the way and let him use you. God's plan is always best, may we all just stop, be quiet, listen and act - this time for the children.

And, if you need any help getting plugged in - just let me know =)

Summer In All It's Glory

Summer is just zipping by. Wow, can't believe that it is already July! Last year we were moving in at this time. I must say that this year has been a whirlwind, but ALL GOOD!

To start our summer fun, we bought a boat! We've been having a blast. John loves to go fast - I love to cruise. It's been amazing to share quiet evenings on the lake at sunset. God is so good.

I hope I never take for granted the warm sunshine on my face, the way a breeze hits your skin, and the love of my life sharing the moment.

So - you, what has been your best summer moment so far?

It's A Good Thing

This weekend is Nicole's first wedding shower, a tea actually. The theme is Martha Stewart, It's A Good Thing. Guests are to bring something from Nicole's MS's selections. It was really fun shopping for this one!

If you've talked to me lately, you know THE dress for her wedding has been the issue. I finally found THE dress at Nordstrom's, wrong color. Hubby gave up his entire Saturday, we went shopping and guess what - THE dress! WOO HOO! Check it out.
Now, just need shoes and jewels and we're in biz!
And looking for ideas for traditions we can start for our two brides in the family this year - ideas?
Update on the "FLIP" - so far it's a flop. We have two or three showings each week, but only one has come back for a second viewing. Keep praying for us...visit and take the tour: kathyspillyardsteam.com . 505 Seis Lagos Trail . Wylie - then forward to anyone you know looking for a home in the metroplex in a wonderful gated neighborhood.

Do you call if a flip if it's already yours?

Today we meet contractors to begin the renovation on a home we own in Wylie. It is located in a fabulous neighborhood, has a wonderful floor plan, BUT (and you knew it was coming)....has the original countertops and WALLPAPER from the early 80's.
So today, we are selecting new countertops, we will do some of the work ourselves and outsource the rest.
It's so difficult in selecting something "generic". To pick out everything - the first consideration is the average buyer. I'm thinking that could be anyone from 30 - 70, which most likely bear much different taste.
So wish me well. I'm putting on generic clothes, wearing generic shoes and trying to "assume" the role.
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining! It's exciting to feel like a "flipper" - always thought we would be good at it. But are you truly a flipper if it's already yours?

This might be fun

Well my sistas...it's never too late to learn - and I say get on board. This blogging craze is not going away, and it's a terrific way to strengthen relationships, make new friends and we just might learn a little something along the way.
It will take time, just like anything we do, to get this blog up and going. It needs good content - and of course if you already know me - I am ready to "decorate"!
I intend to use this blog to not only post my "moments", I also want to use this space to be supportive of you - so feel free to "spill"....I'll promise to use my limited "wisdom" as a sounding board.
So, logging out now to get to the decorating....until tomorrow!
